One Hundred Things To Do Before I Die

80. Swim in an alpine lake

Number 80 all started with a photograph I saw of a magical spectacle of a lake.  When I saw this photo I knew I had to reach this spot.  My friend Trevor and I left at 5:30 am to begin a 4.1 mile hike into the mountains outside Leavenworth, WA.

The weather was beautiful and the hike was filled with many gorgeous vistas.  The vistas had nothing on Colchuck lake.  This alpine lake is nestled at the basin of several peaks and is fed by a glacier.  The water was clear enough to see down 20 feet.  I have never seen such a beautiful location in my life.  The bottom of the lake is a bed of granite.

I jumped in, I swam.  One less thing to do!
